Reverend Father
Jeffrey M. Defayette
Pastor of St. Matthias the Apostle
Welcome! In the name of the family of Saint Matthias the Apostle Parish let me extend to you a very warm and cordial welcome to our parish web site.
You will find within our parish a rich diversity of people that are woven together by our Catholic faith and are therefore transformed into a beautiful tapestry rich in color, age, language, and culture. Our mission and purpose is to grow in the knowledge and love of the Lord Jesus and to serve the needs of all who call this church their home.
We have been especially blessed for forty years to have a Catholic elementary school that provides a quality education for our children and within its walls we have an exceptional principal, faculty and staff.
If I can be of assistance to any parishioner in making your spiritual life here more fruitful, please do not hesitate to call upon me. My role as pastor is to be of service. May our loving God bestow upon you every spiritual gift and blessing.
Scholarship Fund
The Father Edward Albert Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund, in honor of the first and founding pastor of Saint Matthias, is an annual scholarship fund available to children and families of Saint Matthias the Apostle Church only.
Awards will be granted to elementary school children attending Saint Matthias School only or to high school applicants who attend an accredited Catholic high school within the Archdiocese of Washington only. We hope to have at least four or five $500 scholarship awards for tuition assistance to any registered, practicing, and contributing member of our parish who applies for the scholarship fund.
You can obtain a scholarship application in the rectory business office, the school business office, or download below in pdf format. All applications and supporting documentation will be treated in a confidential manner.
Place your pennies and other coins in the Every Penny Counts Box when you come to church so that this annual scholarship award can continue.
